Our story begins in 2021 when our CEO, Peter Shonk, a young Canadian, chose to stay in Playa del Carmen (Mexico) because he couldn't help but fall in love with life here: the sunrises, cycling, the connection with nature, the community, and the opportunities this incredible city offers. From the charming streets of Quebec City to the vibrant shores of Miami, Shonk has charted an inspiring path that has now led him to the captivating Playa del Carmen.
Thus, in 2023, Tohoku Living was born, a real estate developer that takes its name from the private neighborhood where it builds and currently has three developments: Edén (sold out), Abund (pre-sale), and Oasis (pre-construction).
The Tohoku neighborhood, where all our developments are located, has a unique location in the world: besides being in the Mexican Caribbean and the heart of the Riviera Maya, it is a 10-minute walk from the beach and five minutes from the city's most important commercial and social avenue. Moreover, Tohoku is the only private neighborhood located in the city center that still maintains its family essence and connection with nature.
